The Neutrino AstroParticle Physics Lab (NAPPL) group lead by Prof. Carsten Rott at Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) has two immediate openings for postdoctoral fellowships. Successful candidates will join our team to work on the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the IceCube Upgrade.
The research focus of the group is on indirect searches for dark matter, searches for physics beyond the standard model, and solar atmospheric neutrinos. Besides the experimental efforts on the IceCube Neutrino Observatory, our group is also collaborating on JSNS2, Hyper-Kamiokande, and COSINE.
The IceCube Upgrade is an addition of seven detector strings in the deep, clear Antarctic ice at the bottom center region of the IceCube Neutrino Telescope, that will be deployed in 2022/2023. Our group has been leading the development and production of a novel camera-based calibration system for the upgrade. The system is designed to precisely measure the optical properties of the detector medium to improve neutrino pointing accuracy, critical for multi-messenger observations.
It is expected that successful candidates take leadership in data analysis and IceCube Upgrade detector calibration. The successful applicants are expected to work closely with graduate and undergraduate students in our group and with other collaborators.
Based on the applicants’ interests it is also possible to participate in other projects in our lab. Further, there will be opportunities for postdocs to apply for their own independent external research funding. Two of the postdocs in our lab have been successful in this process and we can provide support to candidates based on our previous experience.
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. or have recently submitted their thesis in experimental particle physics, astroparticle physics, or a related field. The initial appointment will be for one year with the expectation that the contract will be renewed annually pending research performance. Senior candidates can be appointed at the level of research professor.
To apply, please send your CV, list of publications with your contributions highlighted, and a short research statement to Prof. Carsten Rott. Applicants should arrange for at least two letters of recommendation to be sent directly to the same address. For full consideration please submit your documents by April 12th, 2020.
If you have any questions or would like to get further information please contact Prof. Carsten Rott.
